Here is the second entry in our Cake Journey series. We’re picking up where we left off, from our first blog on the designing and consultation process and diving into the skilled world of baking and decoration.
After your consultation both you and David will have a clear picture in your head of how your finished cake will look. In the following days we will send you an email, detailing everything we have discussed with a full price work-up as well as any further sketches for reference. We will save your wedding date in our diaries for a week from when we send you these final ideas. To secure your booking we require a 50% deposit. No design is ever set in stone so don’t panic, there is always room to develop and tweak your final idea. Up until a month before your wedding you can change any feature of your design.
Now is your time to sit back and relax (and turn your attention to the 101 other things to organise for your wedding), the only thing you have left to worry about it tucking into a well earned slice on your big day. For us, this is where the hard work really starts. The creation of a wedding cake is a time critical project. It’s not as though we can start decorating a week before the wedding, nobody wants a stale wedding cake! As your big day fast approaches we start baking. Alex (master baker extraordinaire!), will carefully make each of your wedding cake tiers to your specified flavours. Religiously following our unique and original recipes (in our aptly named cake bible!) your cakes will be baked to perfection.
Once baked and cooled, it’s the turn of David and Amber. They carefully level and trim each cake as required before commencing the decoration process. The process to create each cake is unique. Finishes vary from sugarpaste to buttercream, traditional to modern. What’s more is that we are able to work to incorporate food allergies and dietary preferences into all our cakes, no matter what design; choosing an entirely vegan cake will not limit any of the decoration choices available to you. A huge amount of time and effort goes into creating a wedding cake, detailed sugar work such as a large sugar peony takes David well over an hour to make!
Many couples choose to incorporate some form of floral design into their wedding cakes. This can take the form of intricate hand-made sugarpaste flowers or a selection of fresh flowers supplied by your florist. A few weeks before your wedding we will contact your florist if needed and your wedding venue to arrange a suitable time for us to come and set up your wedding cake. We deliver wedding cakes to any venue and set up the cake on arrival so you don’t have to worry about anything (delivery is free to venues in Bradford on Avon). Throughout the whole process we will update you with any changes and inform you of when we will be attending.
We want to make the entire process of choosing and creating your wedding cake as easy and stress free as possible. We will do everything we can to solve any problems you may encounter. Say you have a last minute addition to your guest list who is gluten free but you don’t have a gluten free wedding cake?
Don’t panic, we always have a selection of freshly prepared cupcakes ready to cater to a variety of different dietary conditions available at very short notice so that nobody needs to go without. We are always happy to answer any of your questions you may have and we will do our best to put you mind at ease.
